Food Co-op part deux August 24, 2010

Remember my food co-op? Well, a couple of weeks ago we did it again-and I was reminded of how wonderful it was to not think of creative dinners for 3 nights that week.

I made a deep dish pizza with a medley of veggies and meat along with a caprese salad.  In retrospect I should have prebaked the pizza a little for everyone, since it was a little soggy by the time everyone baked it.  Oh well, live and learn right? It was still delicious.

The dinners I got in exchange:

  • Summer squash soup, whole grain bread with rosemary butter, and brownies (made with black beans so they were more fudgy in consistency and added some protein to the meal)
  • Succotash made with fresh seasonal veggies, grits, and homemade peach pie
  • Pulled pork sandys, cole slaw, corn casserole, and regular brownies.

We ate like kings that week, now we are back to eating like paupers…so sad for us right?

Good thing I got the latest issue of crack Cuisine at Home.  If you aren’t familiar with this food porn magazine rush out to the store now and get it or order it online or steal it from someone (not me because I will cut off your hands). They have amazing recipes that I have come to love over the past few years.  The issues come with 3-holes punched in them already so you can put it right into a 3-ring binder and preserve them forever.  The best part???? There are no ads!  So there is not the 5 pages of advertisement:1 recipe ratio.  CAH gives reader tips, low cal recipes, quick meals, fancy meals, seasonal menus, drinks…do I need to go on? Go buy it, then invite me over for dinner.

DO IT!!
